Club History

Our History

The Halifax Dunbrack Soccer Club (HDSC), based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, was formed in 1993 as an amalgamation of the Rockingham Raiders and Clayton Park Youth Soccer Associations. The Club is an organization of youth players, senior players, and volunteers that promotes and supports participation in and development of mini, youth and senior soccer.

Where We Live

The large majority of players registered with the Club at any one time reside in the area in and around Dunbrack Street, including the communities of Fairview, Clayton Park and Rockingham, as well as the Kearney Lake and Larry Uteck areas. Within this district are three junior high schools, one senior high, and several elementary schools. Mainland North is one of the highest growth districts in Atlantic Canada.

Our Club

HDSC is a not-for-profit society registered under the Societies Act of the Province of Nova Scotia. HDSC is operated by a Board of Directors elected annually from among the members of the Club. On a seasonal basis, HDSC employs several staff members including a Club Manager, Club TD, and Program Co-ordinators. We employ a further 10-20 Technical Assistants in the Summer and 10-15 Technical Assistants in the Winter.

During the Summer Season we will register approximately 1000 players including 500 players from U-6 to U-10; 425 players from U-12 to U-18; and 80 Senior A and Senior B Players. To assist our paid staff we recruit approximately 150 volunteers from the HDSC Membership annually to serve as Coaches, Managers and Board Members. Added to this each of our 65 teams usually calls on a further 3 or 4 family members to help with fund raising, phone calling, and game day requirements. All these figures are reduced by approximately 66% for the Winter season.

Our annual budget is approximately $500,000 of which 90%-95% comes from player registration fees and the balance comes from the Corporate Community in the way of Sponsorship and Club Fundraising Projects.

We are always looking for volunteers and sponsors to help in any way possible. Just give our Club Office a call at 902-455-0078.

Objective

The principal objective of the Club is to ensure the opportunity for all players to participate in organized programs of team play and skill development at levels appropriate for each individual based on ability and commitment. The Club operates a summer and winter program under the jurisdiction of the Halifax District Soccer Association and Soccer Nova Scotia
